Drowning Fast, with One Hand Tied Behind My Back – Part 2

    8th October 2020
The first part of this piece can be found here. My anxiety and even my anger grew. I was angry all the time. I could not stand to be the one that had to do so much, I grew angrier towards my spouse, towards my child. I started to hate my choices: choices to marry, to reproduce, to be expected to give until my cup was running empty and then feel blamed for when I could no longer give. Hate

Drowning Fast, with One Hand Tied Behind My Back -Part 1

    8th October 2020
This article is yet another one in our series on mental health that gives a very poignant account of the writer’s experiences after childbirth. As with the others, this piece gives a personal account and narrates what has felt true to the writer. Motherhood and parenthood in general is a major milestone in life and it comes with trials requiring a tremendous amount of patience. It is therefore not surprising the respect and elevation the status of parenthood is given

    Coronavirus Advisory

    18th March 2020
The Association of Islamic Charitable Projects (AICP) UK begins this message by mentioning the name of Allah and by praising and thanking Him. Nothing can occur except by His Will and nothing can be prevented from occurring except by His Will. May Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad, his kind ‘Al and Companions and protect his nation from what he feared for it. Thereafter, news about the current coronavirus, COVID-19, is understandably making many people worried about themselves and

    The Serenity after the Storm

    10th October 2019
Sound mental (and physical) health according to Muslim physicians is related to having a balanced temperament and proportionate humours which represents the constituents of the human body. When these are imbalanced, illnesses can occur and one of the means of medical cure is by taking measures to rectify the imbalances.  In Western Medicine, diseases of the mind have been given names according to clusters of symptoms and patterns. Amongst one of those labels is what is called schizoaffective disorder which

    The Weight of Emptiness

    11th October 2018
Various statistics report that one in four people suffer from a mental health problem, such as clinical depression. This means that 3 out of 4 people know someone who has a mental health problem, or are carers to someone who does. Clinical depression is a leading cause of death worldwide, ranking along with heart disease. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that it is the biggest cause of disability globally and a reason for one of the commonest direct causes

    On the Road to Reflection

    26th September 2018
One of our members has shared his insightful reflections on being a Muslim biker: When I was asked to write about biking from a Muslim’s point of view, my initial reaction was “Huh? Errrr…”, because I couldn’t think of a way to relate the two. So I did the only thing I could think of to try and get some inspiration: I went for a ride. Biking is a lot more ‘interactive’ than travelling by car or by train. You’re

    The Blessed Month in Jordan

    7th June 2018
As the Blessed Month comes to an end, one of our members shares her experience of Ramadan in Jordan: The blessed Month of Ramadan is long awaited around the globe, and in Jordan you begin to feel the change in atmosphere a whole month prior, but more obviously so from the 15th of Sha^ban. The whole country begins to prepare for the days to come with much excitement and enthusiasm. Public spaces are decorated with lanterns and lights, leaving me

    The Blessed Month So Far

    28th May 2018
One of our members shares a few Ramadan reflections here: It’s Ramadan, and my tongue needs to keep moving, remembering to recite adhkar/remembrance of Allah, Qur’an or that which has benefit. The days are special, and a calmness seems to exist if I take time out to observe and embrace it. I aim to spend my time wisely and beneficially, and it is clear to see the benefits of attending sessions of knowledge as I feel my worldly worries being

The Month of Tranquillity and Serenity

    12th May 2018
One of our members succinctly captures the eagerness with which we await the Month of Ramadan: Ramadan decorations are hung up in our centres as we reminisce about past Ramadans. There is laughter and joy and a sense of community here as preparations are underway. Our building, for some their second home, is colourfully and lovingly decorated, inside with bunting and glass lanterns hanging from the ceiling and outside rows of small lanterns in a traditional print sway gently in the wind

    Mount ‘Uhud

    1st May 2018
Amongst the things from this earth which will be taken to Paradise is Mount ‘Uhud, as well as the Rawdah of the Prophet and all of the mosques. Taken from the Mountain of the Archers. At the right of the photo are where the martyrs of the campaign of ‘Uhud are buried, along with our Master Hamzah, the uncle of the Prophet.
